Recent College Graduate: Resume Writing FAQs

How can a recent graduate best present his or her skills?

Creating a resume with little or no experience can be hard.  Let's face it, it's like applying for a credit card with no credit history, as you have no credit history to offer (or employment experience).  To get your foot in the door, outline the job experience that you do have; working at Starbucks, waiting tables, etc.  Hiring managers looking for 1-2 years of experience are not expecting someone with 10 years of experience, so be honest and try to explain and emphasize the experience that you do have.  Use our resume writing tips and relate them to your experience.  Also consider using a Functional Resume Layout as this format puts less emphasis on work experience and focuses more on skills.  To get started we offer several resume examples for recent grads, check out: College Resume and First Job Resume Sample to get started.

Still stuck?  Try using a professional writing service or online resume builder, as these services can closely work with you on leveraging your particular skills and qualifications.
